Whether you’re in the Coke Lot, the Snake Pit or Gasoline Alley – you’re bound to see some great outfits during the summer months at IMS. Now that Halloween is just a few days away, we decided to pull together some of the best “costumes” we saw around the Speedway this year. Just in case you need some last-minute inspiration …
The first and, perhaps, most obvious of the costumes seen during Race Days at IMS. There are a number of ways to go about showing your American pride this Halloween, but they all include wearing the most obnoxious combination of stars and stripes possible. See below for male and female options.
The Human Checkered Flag
As long as you’re OK with temporary hair dye then this costume should be pretty simple to pull off. Black and white from head to toe.
500 Festival Princess
A simple tiara, a sash and a SMILE is all this costume requires.
The Party Animal
Halloween doesn’t get much easier than this. Spend some money on the animal head of your choosing and wear whatever outfit you desire. We spotted unicorns, squirrels and horses at the Indy 500 this year.
Retro Race Fan
Take a trip to your local Goodwill, or maybe your grandfather’s closet, and dig out the flashiest green, white, checkered shirt available. Add a checkered headband and some big hair to finish out the costume.
Classy, cute and fashionable. Grab a pair of shorts, your cutest Wing and Wheel T-shirt and your highest pair of heels to complete your Grid Girl costume.
Old-Timey Car Owners
This costume only works for those with a “go big or go home” attitude. Raid your grandparents’, or great-grandparents’, closet to complete this classic look. Want to be extra classy? Carry a teacup and/or a record player. And if you want to get really crazy, convince someone to let you use their classic car for the evening.
Rossi’s Biggest Fan
This is a great costume for the MotoGP fans out there. A yellow wig and that Yamaha shirt you most certainly bought in Vendor Marketplace during your last trip to the Red Bull Indianapolis GP are all you need.
Race Day Clown
Put a Speedway twist on your ordinary clown costumes. Add a few green flags to your hat and checkered cloth to your normal clown suit.
If push comes to shove just pull out all the random pieces you have left over from old Halloween costumes and wear all of it! A bit like the guy in the far right of the photo below. A Spider-Man mask, a clown suit and a sombrero make a perfectly acceptable Indy 500 Race Day outfit, so why shouldn’t it work for Halloween as well?
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever worn to Race Day at IMS?
