We’re chronicling 100 days of Indy 500 history on #SpeedRead leading up to the historic 100th Running. With 72 days to go, we look back with Graham Rahal, who visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as a fan long before he arrived as a driver.
The first races I can actually remember would have to be somewhere between 1993, 1994 or 1995. David Letterman and others would join the whole family in the same suite that we still have to this day. David spent the whole race quizzing me on sponsorships, drivers and cars to make sure I knew everything before the race was over.
Indy means the world to my family and has changed our name forever. Nothing can ever effect a name like Indy. With over 100 years of racing, there is absolutely no place like it. There will never be a sporting event with the tension and build-up like the Indy 500. I feel lucky to be a part of the race.
