It must be spring in Indiana.
The sun is shining. The birds are singing. The brackets are busting. And IndyCar is gearing up for an exciting new season of racing with a new sponsor, Verizon, a new race in May, the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, and now — some brand new faces to bring beauty and style to the racing scene.
The Colts have the cheerleaders.
The Pacers have the Pacemates.
And now, IndyCar has the Indy Girls.
The Indy Girls will serve as goodwill ambassadors to the IndyCar series and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They made their public debut during the Midwest Fashion Week Runway Showcase at the Indianapolis Artsgarden on Thursday night.
IndyCar drivers Simon Pagenaud and Mikhail Aleshin were not only in attendance, they took a stroll down the catwalk themselves and answered questions from the audience. And they were naturals. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them back next year modeling tuxes.
The dresses for the Indy Girls were produced by Indianapolis designer Berny Martin of Catou, also the director of Midwest Fashion Week. Martin used the colors of the Indiana flag and the Grand Prix of Indianapolis as inspiration, as well as the shape of the track. The look was sexy, but classy. All American, with a slightly retro feel.
Perhaps a nod to the glory days? That would fit perfectly with IndyCar’s mission: “To reclaim the heart of American racing.”
IndyCar played a promotional video preview of the 2014 season, which opens with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 30th.
They certainly got my heart racing!
And the Indy Girls are sure to do the same.
Is it May yet?
