My happy place during May. Look forward to Donald’s stories each day.
My hubby hasn’t been to the museum for many years and wondered if they have stock cars, F1 or motercycles there now—it doesn’t matter because whatever cars are there will be real works of art! We’ll stop by on the race weekend and maybe also the photo center to see if we can get some old time photos printed! Can’t wait!
When I was nine (1968) father brought my brothers and me to pole day, I was hooked since. Dad stopped going in 1976, I have not missed a pole day since. I remember going to the museum when it was at 16th and Georgetown as a boy. I’ve been to a lot of auto museums but never one like Tony’s After 42 pole days with either my father or my son, someday I’ll make it to the race, yea I have yet to make the trip on Memorial day. Soon.
The one vehicle I can make out is a minivan, which wasn’t invented until the mid-1980′s.
Love Donalds daily dose of the Speedway. I would suggest to all who post on here, since you are interested in the history, that you buy Donalds book, “THE OFFICIAL HISTORY OF THE INDIANAPOLIS 500″. It is a great book and, as an unofficial histoian of the Speedway, midgets, sprint cars and the REAL champ cars(champ dirt cars) I still use it as reference at times. Its a great book. Also, Dick nWallens book, “FABULOUS FIFTIES”..IF there are any left. LANCE: who cares…its the museum that is the important thing in the pic… A hollwed ground for those who truly love racing. Remember…”FOR THOSE OF US WHO TRULY LOVE RACING, EVERYTHING BEFORE AND AFTER IS, JUST WAITING!”
for $5.00 you cannot find a better museum in the world. great race cars, great classic cars, great memorablia. a good movie, the borg-warner trophy, motorcycles, nascar, f1, rare expensive cars, two gift shops, an unbelivable photo shop and a group of knowledgeable employees. you also catch the bus here for a track tour……….LOVE THIS PLACE !!
Just went to the museum over the holidays and it is amazing when the grounds and track are covered in Snow. it is like a sleeping giant. then as you go inside the Museum you remember all your memories from the first time you stepped on its hallow grounds. Doesnt matter when it is the speedway and the museum always give me goosebumps
When I go to the museum I try to take someone who has NEVER been to the track. I have done this several times…include the lap around the track, etc. By the end of the day that person is hooked! That’s Raci’n and That’s Indy.
