Thanks for the great recap. I often feel that without shaw we would have no speedway today. Thanks also for clarifying his height. I’ve had several debates with friends over this.
Donald–Great story and important. Always something dahsing about Shaw, kind of like Clark Gable, and drove that beautiful Maserati…very cool

Could I be related to Wilbur Shaw?
My great grandfather lived in Terre Haute and had three sons, my grandfather, Charles, and two other boys, one of whom was named Wilbur. I don’t know if this Wilbur was the father of Wilbur, the race car driver, or not, but I don’t think Wilbur was such a common name. My father, Frederick Shaw was said by my family to be related and a spitting image of Wilbur, and after looking at this photo, I agree.
A worthwhile discussion is really worth a comment. In my opinion , that you ought to write more about this subject, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people are not willing to write on such matters. Best wishes
