    Thanks for the great recap. I often feel that without shaw we would have no speedway today. Thanks also for clarifying his height. I’ve had several debates with friends over this.

    Donald–Great story and important. Always something dahsing about Shaw, kind of like Clark Gable, and drove that beautiful Maserati…very cool

    In the ranking of the most important people of IMS and the Indy 500, Wilbur Shaw and Tony Hulman are 2A and 2B for it wasnt for Wilbur Shaw finding Tony Hulman, IMS would have been a housing project. thanks Wilbur for getting Tony hooked up!

    My great grandfather lived in Terre Haute and had three sons, my grandfather, Charles, and two other boys, one of whom was named Wilbur. I don’t know if this Wilbur was the father of Wilbur, the race car driver, or not, but I don’t think Wilbur was such a common name. My father, Frederick Shaw was said by my family to be related and a spitting image of Wilbur, and after looking at this photo, I agree.

    Aw, this was a very nice post. In idea I want to put in writing like this additionally – taking time and actual effort to make an excellent article… however what can I say… I procrastinate alot and not at all seem to get something done.
